I am a 17 year old girl. I'm the strongest girl I know of, with the most common sense of any one of the girls I know my age. This upcoming summer I want to backpack through Europe for two months with a companion {either a friend my age or my 20 year old sister}, are age restrictions going to make this trip unpleasent? It 17 old enough to be doing this?

Hi,,,, I travel all over europe,, have seen many girls and boys backpacking.. I suggest you make a travel plan and stick to it..
let everyone at home know... who, what , where, when , how...ect ect... just for their peace of mind,,, and justincase something happens..

I also suggest going on line and reading up what maybe others have done,,,, or a backpackers guide in europe,,, in a book store.. that could be a good source of information...

Remeber,, you are not in America,, your rights as you know them do not apply in a foreign country... dont break the law,,, dont do anything to beashamed of....and dont take chances... remeber that young girl in Aruba last year !!!!

GO,, take lots of pictures,,, and have the time of your life...

good luck,,,,,

If you think you can you will. You will be fine just keep your wits about you! Be very smart about things, and keep an eye on your things at all times. Nobody needs to know your age at all. I went to Europe when I was 19 with my best friend (same age) for 6 weeks. We had a blast and learned a lot. Twice someone tried to steal our things. All I am saying is don't trust ANYONE! Then When I just turned 21 I backpacked through, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand all by myself. I was fine. I am so proud of you. There needs to me moe strong girls out there that do this stuff. It is amazing. Who ever you go out with needs to be careful, you kind of have to watch each others backs.

HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just want you to know after reading the above answers. DONT make a travel plan. Just make a rough idea of the direction you will travel in. Tell your parents that you will email you the minute you find a place to stay and let them know where you are. It is so much more fun to be spontanious when traveling. Don't book places ahead of time either, just show up and find one.

To answer your question as far as i know there are a few things that will give problems age wise, but given the two options i would suggest your sister verses a companion, as you are technically still a minor.. But my suggestion is get a group of four of you to go there is better safety in numbers, I hope this has helped and I wish you all the best going to Europe can be a wonder experience, and hostels are a great way to travel in expensively. Have fun.

I would feel better if you traveled with a chaperone . An adult chaperone who's been there before .

In the mean time watch the movie " Hostel "
