You have no way of verifying the claims of anyone pretending to be, or who actually is, a doctor who attends this forum. And are you asking about physicians or will any PhD do? For accurate medical information, it is better by far to find a physician local to you and go to him/her on a regular basis. Other than that, there are a number of good reference books out there that address a wide variety of medical topics, but there are more references that are pure baloney. There are even more references lately on the Internet, but the great majority of those are worse than baloney - the "information" they offer is quite often not just wrong, it's dangerous!
Go to your public library and find Taber's Medical Dictionary to get started - it'll give you lots of definitions. The Girl Scouts have a personal first aid manual, and that's another thing you should be able to find in the library. But still - if you have reason to think you have a medical problem, go to a physician who's local to you. Trying to dope it out on your own is beyond foolish. And I get the feeling you're no fool!
