Yes, it can be dangerous. I'm sure his father is being careful, but a baby's brain is SO delicate, and too much flipping/jarring/shaking (even though it's unintentional) can harm him and his quickly growing/developing brain. One wrong move and he could be damaged permanently.

If it is wrong to shake him, then of course its wrong to flip him over like that! A baby's brain is just developing and its very delicate! Everyone knows about it "don't shake a baby" It is said everywhere! Of course its dangerous! Babies been brain damaged from this and some even dies! I know it sounds pathetic but its true and everyone takes it seriously! All the pediatrians always tell you that -"Don't ever shake a baby" ANything that's too rough can do something!

Can be if he shakes him to much.

Shaken baby syndrome (SBS) describes a variety of outcomes that may occur as a result of shaking or hitting the head of an infant or small child. Shaken baby syndrome occurs when an abuser violently shakes an infant, creating a Whiplash-type motion that causes acceleration-deceleration injuries (National Center on Shaken Baby Syndrome). SBS is a specific type of non-accidental trauma (physical child abuse). SBS is often coupled with striking of the infant against a hard object and, in these cases may be known as the shaken impact syndrome.

The injury, a major cause of mortality in infants, is often and can produce lifelong disability from neurological damage. 10 to 12% of all child abuse s are due to SBS (Oral, 2003). These effects are due to destruction of brain cells secondary to the initial trauma, oxygen deprivation and swelling of the brain, which can raise intracranial pressure and damage delicate brain tissue. Retinal hemorrhages are also commonly found in children suffering from SBS, occurring in 50 to 90% of cases (Oral, 2003).

Subdural hematoma is commonly found in SBS victims, as are diffuse axonal injury (Ricci and Botash, 2005) and brain contusion. Subdural hematoma, the most common injury found in children suffering from SBS, is classically found on both sides of the brain. In other types of injury or disease, a subdural hematoma may be unilateral. Subarachnoid hemorrhage is also found in this type of trauma (Oral, 2003).

But, what you said he does sounds okay. I do that to my little brothers.

He's fine. His neck is strong enough at 7 months. My daughter loves it when i do it to her. He probably laughs his butt off when his dad does it. Be happy that his daddy is bonding with him.

as long as he doesn't repeatedly do it at the same time, it should be okay....like if he does it and lets the boy breathe, and the baby doesn't cry or anything like that or show that he's in pain, its okay....unless he's doing it to an infant or newborn that can't even hold up his head, then that would be dangerous....don't worry...babies aren't that "fragile"....and i'm sure your bro-in-law knows what he's doing....
