Just curious. I noticed it in Teen Vogue magazine. It was a article that said white girls want to look like Kate Bosworth or Mischa Barton. Black girls want to look like beyonce or vivica a fox

Because beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, and you see perfection and imperfection within yourself, therefore people project what is beautiful to themselves to everyone else and it becomes the standard... I say love yourself because we are all a part of GOD and GOD is apart of us.....WE ARE ALL BEAUTIFUL..short, tall, slim, curvy, 100lbs or 200 lbs.. 1st we should love ourselves and then other people's ideas of beauty will not effect us so much

differences in cultural values...but i have head some brothas so jacked up things about a healthy girl too, not just white guys. Americans in general are overly concerned with body image, prestige and and an unrealistic ideal of beauty, due in part to the fact that we are bombarded with commerical images....to get us to buy stuff. If we thought we were ok as we are; slim or curvy, and that we didn't need to change...then we would spend money on things to change ourselves.
On the other hand...Americans are fat compared to other countries (other countries, not races...black and white and Asians are slimmer around the world. America...land of plenty.) So we have a sort of warped images of ourselves...we want ans want on want...and we have and have and have....and we are never satisfied....
Self respect, self acceptance...self love and appreciation for all types of beauty is what all of us Americans need to work on...otherwise,, we will choke on that Twinkies while we're working out on that stair-master.

First of all, the prevailing standard of beauty is measured on the dominant popular culture.

Dominant popular culture in the USA is measured by the "white" standard. Therefore, those who fit in that group, will go to any length to measure up to that (even though they still eat lots of junk food and drink diet colas to give the "appearance" of "thinking slim")

Black women have never felt any pressure to "conform" to any "white" standard of beauty because "black" women are not measured on a "white" beauty standard in popular culture.

Look at the comedienne Mo'nique - she has always stood by being (FAT - Fabulous And Thick) - Being comfortable with WHO you are and what you look like at the size you are.

Popular Commerical Culture in the USA is corrupting a lot of women into Plastic Surgery and extreme dieting measures to conform to that "universal" standard of beauty that is portrayed by celebrities. Meanwhile, behind the scenes you have no idea what kind of pressure is on these celebs to "look" a certain way - stay young (number one) and pencil thin (number two).

These obsessions with trying to duplicate an image you see in magazines is unhealthy. Bottom line is you have to be comfortable in YOUR OWN skin and forget about trying to stand up to some IMPOSSIBLE standard of beauty which is AIRBRUSHED, STITCHED, STUCK, SEWN, AND PASTED in magazines.

I don't know, but when I was in school only the black guys and Mexican guys thought I was cute... the white guys all said i was fat cause I was curvy.... I then decided that white guys were stupid and I wasn't going to marry a guy who was white that would think I was fat just because I wasn't a stick.... well, damn it. I betrayed myself, married a white guy who thought I was fat when I was straight out of Basic Training, and really thinks I'm fat now that I've had his child... White guys are stupid, not all of them, just the ones I happen to know.
I think it boils down to black men wanting real women and white men wanting to themselves stay young and the younger a girl is the flatter the chest and skinnier the body.

White girls are the model for the media set conditions of beauty. There is not one black supermodel that I know of that is fulfills the common characteristics of what should be (that is, if there should be ANY) avatar of their culture or race. It is just another case of American minorities being slapped in the face--hard--over something that shouldn't be an issue.
There shouldn't be any job where people of any race make that much money for nothing.

when i think of beauty i think of faeries.. and faeries are pictured slender but still a little curvy, and graceful and beautiful. and i know in white culture, in different areas of the world such as ireland and the netherlands, and europe it was all about the ballerinas, and fearies of the myths, etc. in black culture, you go back to africa and in most areas there that i have studied, being bigger and gaining a lot of extra weight is what they see as feminine and beatiful. to white people feminine is more frail and petite. not that they still dont like curves of course. but i think all sizes are good. you need variety...as long as you don't starve yourself, or you dont always eat unhealthy and are overweight(unfortunatley many americans are..) you can be size 2 or size 10.. and then of course , white people want to look like mischa b/c she is famous, and according the media, the way to look, and then she's white. black women want to look like beyonce because she's beautiful and black...you don't see much thick white people in the media, or much thin black people, unless you count tira banks.

Black people are originally from Africa where thickness and big back sides are a sign of prosperity and fertility. Wide hipped women were considered the healthy child-bearers. Women with big breasts were thought of as a mother that would provide lots of milk for babies. Plus curvy thick butts feel better during doggy versus a woman with a pancake butt...right fellas?

I've noticed that too, Im not saying all white females would not like to have a big butt, thighs and hips, but I've noticed that the majority that I know would not want that, but black females on the other hand, the majority of us at least, want the big hips thighs and butts

My guess is black women except their bodies and overall seem to be more confident naturally. While white women are prone to lack self confidence. It's sad but true. Black men seem to appreciate a nice round butt.....white boys want tiny ones.

Standards of beauty vary from culture to culture and from era to era. Look at paintings from the Renaissance period. We would think the women in those paintings needed to hit the gym or Weight Watchers or something. So, just depends on your culture, really, I think.
