I agree, (im 14) and one of my good friends was having a party and didn't invite me. I wasn't that upset when another friend told me because she goes to another school and has different friends. But what got me upset was that when i got home, the friend having the party called....to invite me an hour after it had started because there were not that many people there. it just comes to show how cruel girls can be.

I think it is a product of our school system. Conformity is king in the classroom and those that are different are the lightning rods of hate very often. It is fueled by teachers who are too tired or overworked to be kindly tolerant of those that are different.
It is also about school yard supremecy. Very often the mean ones are afraid that if the other is 'allowed' to go along unchecked, she will be ousted from her position of most popular girl as this new girl takes over. It is, therefore in her best interest to show everyone how terrible and anoying the new girl is before anyone befriends her.
It is deplorable - you are right (and frankly quite cunning for those so young). We all need to work together, particularly in this day and age where tolerance is so important, we really need to teach our kids to embrace differences.
I am going to home school my kids and I hope that I will be able to avoid this nonsense for them - but who knows. The very fact that they are different in their schooling may draw criticism from others, but hopefully my girls will not be in an environment where that will really matter. I think many of us saw this kind of meanness disappear once we were out of the school environment - don't you think? I mean you still get it, to some degree in the larger workplaces - but isn't that sort of the same sort of 'institution' for grown ups?
The next time you see that, I wish you would stand up and say something. "Hey you, that's not nice! Did your mother teach you to act that way?" is what I say when I see that. If nothing else they see another female who doesn't think that is cool. What do I have to lose? And maybe Stephanie can walk home knowing that not every female is a mean b**** and that some will stick up for her, even if they don't know her.
Peace!

Some of it is just nature and most of it is just society . Women never had rights in this world and had to always rely on a man . So to get the man of their lives they had to compete with eachother . Nowdays women are becoming nicer to eachother than before since they are financially independent and more educated but the problem is not solved yet . I try my best to be good to my girlfriends and dont let any man break this bond , I am trying my best to be good to other women and if everyone of us do the same thing then there is not gonna be any mean women out there

Girls are mean , but thnk about this growing up you have alot of pressure both from your peers and the media you feel like you have to look a cewrtain way. So when a girl looks better than you or your jealous of her that jealousy turns into anger and you try o make her feel like sh*t think about it remember high school when there was that one pretty popular girl who was a bi*ch to anyone thats better or smarter the her

maybe cos they're insecure, jealous if a friend is prettier so have to find some other fault. Someone's more popular but hey they suck academically. It's juvenile nonsense that hopefully they grow out of. Unfortunately doesn't always happen. I've met girls who've bitched about their best friend. it's sad

Because girls know that fighting emotionally with words hurts worse than with physical punches, etc. Girls are going to be mean to each other no matter what. It's human nature.

it is like that becuase as human beings evolved, women saw each other (and still do see each other) as competition for mates. the women with the strongest, best mates had the best chances of survival and the best chance of their children surviving, so the women that could effectively size up the competition and eliminate them had their genes pass on to the next generation.

I don't know. Some people just aren't born sympathetic to other people, and when you are young, you don't realize how HORRIBLE it is to treat someone that way.
