Glowing is a nice term for looking pale at the beginning of pregnancy.. When a woman is first pregnant, they are usually more tired, more nauseated and more pale than normal. It is indeed hormones, but when people say glowing they mean "Ya got that look". Also, there is a such thing as pregnancy mask that a lot of women get. Their face is more flushed or tan looking along the T zone on the face. This is also another reason "glow" comes up in conversation.

Pregnant women do sort of glow because their hormones are so crazy at this time their body releases a sort of shinyness (like sweat) giving their skin a glow but i think the real meaning to this phrase is that pregnant women are always so happy and smiling so they glow!

It's kind of a dewy glow to the face, she really does look like she's glowing. And yeah, there can be other reasons. Depending on what kind of makeup I use, some people ask me if I'm pregnant because they say I'm glowing. :o)

Many people use the phrase to refer to that sort of happy-yet-dazed look that many pregnant women seem to have once they start showing. Being a girl reared in the South however, I know that "horses sweat, men perspire, and women glow." It is a genteel way of saying that a person, in this case a person with out-of-wack hormones, is sweating terribly.

I think that it is kind of a hypothetical phrase. If you "are glowing", then you radiate a sort of happiness and cheerfulness. Sure you can glow even if you arent pregnant. :-)
