I placed this question in another section also, but someone that wont go in that section will be in this one and will be able to help me out....I hope.

Trojans, adware, spyware, all sorts of things have attached and downloaded to my computer earlier today when I downloaded capabilities from Toontown.com. Now, I dont know what to do!! I have downloaded CCleaner and Spybot Search and Destroy, run them numerous times, and things have calmed a little, but I'm still getting bombarded with the same 6 adware popups, and it seems like most at the same time.

Does anyone out there have any suggestions or solutions for me before I croak over from a nervous breakdown?!

I went to http://www.toontown.com. There doesn't seem to be any concerns with adware/spyware/viruses associated with the website. Find it hard to believe that a Disney site would infect your computer, but you never know.

Did you install the "Disney Toontown Online" program? This may be the problem since it seems to be a memory hog. If you did, go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall the program.

Are the pop-ups and adware Disney or kid oriented? If they are of the "adult" nature, who else uses the computer?

Most of all, what is/are the name(s) of the infections? Got to know what we're dealing with here.

Since toontown.com is a legitimate program. I can only assume that you downloaded a pirated (free) version using Limewire or some other P2P file sharing program. Unfortunately, malware is often the price one pays for these so-called "free" downloads.

Well since the damage is done, now to clean up your computer. Using all 3 of these will remove all but the most stubborn viruses, trojans and spyware.

1. Scan for virus and remove (free online scan) with BitDefender

http://www.bitdefender.com/site/home/

2. Scan for trojans and remove (free online scan) with Ewido

http://www.ewido.net/en/

3. Scan for ad/spyware and remove (free download) with Spybot Search & Destroy

Good luck.

Hey, it happens to the best of us. Download and run all of this software. It helps if you can enter the DOS mode of your computer. You can do this through your "run" feature when you right click on your start menu. Sorry I can't remember the command but it is something like "cd\windows" or something. Google search it. Here is the software to install and run:
http://noahdfear.geekstogo.com/ (That is called SmitRem)
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ (AdAware)
and last but not least
http://www.spybot.info/en/download/index.html (SpyBot)

If you don't have a firewall installed go BUY ONE tomorrow!
Don't throw the computer out of the window. Be patient and things will get better soon.

hi, There must be virus/spyware/adware in your computer. Perhaps you can try Norton or Macfee to remove the virus. but you need to pay for the software.

i also recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can disable all virus to run, because the virus can only run on IE.

besides, firefox can block any any poppus and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE. as you know, most of the virus is spread throught internet and webpage.

firefox is much smaller than IE, so i run faster than IE.

download firefox for free:

I would take it in to the place where you got the computer or go in to a place that sells computers and would have dealings with this and ask them what kind of software they would suggest for what has been happening with your computer. Take the computer with if possible so that they can see the problems as well. I did this with mine when I got adware/spyware and it helped so much. My computer is fine and dandy now. (They put on Webroot Spysweeper for me if you can't take it in or go somewhere to see what they suggest, try that.)

you can go to www.pandasoftware.com and get a free on-line scan. It is located on the left side of the page. You will have to download their program, but it is safe. It should take care of most of them if not all. Hope this helps.

Maybe...

Look in the top left of the pop ups and see if they say
"messenger service"

If they do, heres the cure. goto start>settings>control panel
click on administrative tools.
A menu should come up that lists lots of different services
that are or could be ran on your pc.
find the one named messenger. Right click the entry and then click on properties.
A drop down menu should be available that says stop, enable, disable. Click on disable and then click on the "APPLY" button.
then keep clicking on ok until your out of there.

the Messenger service was designed so administrators on a
network could send messages to users.
Hackers found out you can send SPAM that way....

If you don't have antivirus, download the free edition of AVG. It's free and easy to use. I'm currently using it and I must say that I'm satisfied...
