An open letter to the American president
By Salim El Hoss, former prime minister of Lebanon
Dear Mr. Bush,
We heard you express your regrets regarding the casualties of "Israel's" ravaging war against my country, Lebanon.
I hope you have been furnished with a true profile of the atrocities being perpetrated in my country. You pose as being at war with terrorism. Let me honestly tell you: Charity starts at home.
""Israel"" is wantonly indulging in the most horrendous forms of terrorism in Lebanon: indiscriminately killing innocent civilians at random; not sparing children, elderly or handicapped people; demolishing buildings over their residents' heads; and destroying all infrastructure, roads, bridges, water and power arteries, harbors, air strips and storage facilities. Nothing moving on the highways is spared, not even ambulances, trucks, trailers, cars or even motorcycles, all in violation of the Geneva Conventions and human rights.
The displaced population has reached more than one fourth of the total population of my country - all suffering the harshest and most miserable of conditions. The victims include thousands of killed and maimed.
If this is not terrorism, what is?
"Israel's" savage assault has been labeled retribution for Hizbullah's abduction of two Israeli soldiers. This smacks of collective punishment, which constitutes a brazen violation of the Geneva Conventions and human rights. Furthermore, the alibi is far from plausible. The two Israeli soldiers were abducted for the express purpose of reaching a swap of hostages with "Israel". In fact, "Israel" had acceded more than once to such swaps in the past. Why would a swap of prisoners be acceptable at one time and a taboo, rather a casus belli, at another? This created a conviction among the Lebanese that the sweeping assault against them was premeditated, and the abduction was only a tenuous excuse.
"Israel" is indulging in terrorism at its worst, at its ugliest, using the most lethal and sophisticated weapons you have supplied them.
We the Lebanese are justified in seeing in "Israel" as a most atrocious terrorist power, and seeing in you a direct partner. Mr. President: You are indeed a terrorist practicing the worst variant of terrorism as you condone the annihilation of my country, precluding a cease-fire to be announced, supporting the aggression against my people politically and diplomatically and bolstering "Israel's" destructive arsenal with the most lethal weaponry.
Mr. President: You are not fooling anybody with your alleged war against terrorism. In our perspective, you and "Israel" are the most unscrupulous terrorists on earth. If you want to fight terrorism, we suggest that you start with your administration and your hideous ally, "Israel".
You repeatedly claim that "Israel" is acting in self-defense. How preposterous! Self-defense on other people's occupied territory is tantamount to one thing: blatant aggression.
You call Hizbullah a terrorist organization. We call it a legitimate resistance movement. There would have been no military wing of Hizbullah if there had been no Lebanese territory under Israeli occupation, if there had been no Lebanese hostages languishing in Israeli jails, and if Lebanon had not been exposed to almost daily Israeli intrusions into its airspace and territorial waters, and to sporadic incursions into Lebanese land and bombardment of civilian targets.
You cannot eliminate a party by demolishing a whole country. This would have been achieved peacefully by "Israel" withdrawing from the land it occupies, releasing Lebanese prisoners, and desisting from further acts of aggression against Lebanon.
"Israel" is the most horrendous terrorist power. And you, Mr. President, are unmistakably a direct partner, and hence a straight terrorist.

Israel has been the MOST persecuted country and group of people, in the world.

We should wonder about the identity of the people who very vocally denigrate the head of our country, especially during such a tumultous time. How do we know they aren't allied with terrorist forces...insurgents? Maybe their job here is to instigate unrest and stir up hatred among real Americans. And divide us. That is the way to crash a nation.
Some are just ignorant; a country's problems formulate over years and years and when they finally come to head, the administration in office is blamed. Patriotic people well understand this.
The war has to do with a group of people who want nothing less than to demolish "infidel" America and non-Muslims everywhere. That's what their religion is about and what they feel they must do.
If you think you will extend an olive branch to them and give them the kiss of peace to solve this matter, you are dead wrong.

Finally, you people who are so disgusted with our government and heads of state, perhaps you might consider leaving and go live overseas...maybe int he countries you so sympathize with. Several well- known movie stars threatened to relocate overseas if Bush was elected..
oh...but they didn't go and are still raking in the money here. Surprise.
If you do plan air travel, better hurry up before those poor maligned terrorists commit anymore acts...then you may have to fly in a hospital gown.

Ni this is the first time am reading it. The former p.m must really have guts to say to Bush that he is a terrorist. I guess this is because Bush is supporting Israel who is killing it's people. But is he concerned only about his country? Did he not see when the Hezbollah launched rockets into Israel and killed civilians? If so then he is blind and selfish. If he is treating Israel a deadly terrorist then i think he should accuse hezbollah too for what it has done. Can he not see that some of the deaths are also caused by hezbollah's wikedness??? They are using the Lebanese as a Human sheild!!!! Hiding amongst civilians, in hospitals, and much more. Even launchinh rockets from residential ares. Thus this attracts Israeli sldiers to this place and this makes them think that tthe Hezbollah are actually in this specific place. But by the time they attack the guerilla fighters have already gone. This is precisely what happened in Qana which resulted into this horrible accident. Which is more important ?
1. Accidental and forced killing, in order to protect it's country and people?

2. Barbaric ans irrational killing for a cause that is not clearly justified?

Which of these two seem more terrorist to you former P.M?

A passionate letter, no doubt.

However, the letter will not or cannot be read by the person you refer as "The President". Some of us here call him "The Little Prince" or "The Thug President".

At any rate, my suggestion to the former Prime Minister is to resubmit his letter. He would probably fare better if he used monosyllabic words. They are easier for the Baby Bush to search the definitions in the dictionary (actually, truth be told, Laura Bush does this for him since she was once a librarian).
I would also suggest the Prime Minister use Crayola Crayon. The Little Prince, from what I hear, enjoys bright colors and the larger letters are more readable and quite possibly understood! Please be sure to use printed letters instead of cursive. All of those squiggles just confuse our Little Prince.

On a more serious note, my thoughts and prayers are with you and ALL people in the world involved in war. It's unnatural and it's unnecessary.

Best Wishes!

The writer of the open letter is well informed and is speaking the truth. Sadly some are less well informed.
Clearly "Bush" is only the figurehead for the United States administration and its main mouth piece. Whether he is truly aware of what is going on is another matter.

During WW2, efforts to destroys factories also destroyed home and tens of thousands of civilians.
Lebanon is suffering the consequences of allowing terrorists to occupy and thrive.
Tooooo Bad! War is Hades.

So his call for justice and civility is totally selective
He does not care a shred for Israel
he is one of those using the Media
its propaganda plain and simple
he would not know the truth if it walked up to him and smacked him in the head

Definitely a waste of space with the whining letter...I agree with corvette.
Countries need to start taking responsibility for their alliances, and decisions. Just like people.
Israel has been one of the most (if not THE MOST) unjustly persecuted country in the world.

why didn't the former prime minister of Lebanon do something about Hezbollah before Israel is now forced to do something about Hezbollah , and now he writes this whimpering letter trying to pass the blame.
