Whether or not you're paid for it, it's still your responsibility to adhere to your schedule. What makes you think you have the right to just take off? Welcome to the real world. If you're an adult about it, you'd show your dedication to your job. It's your job to be there, so you should go in tomorrow.

You said it yourself ... it is "your responsibility" to fill in for no-shows. If you don't show up without first discussing it with your supervisor, you'll be out of a job (unless that's what you want).
Show up for your shift at 8am, and then ask your supervisor for time off next week if you really feel you need it. But don't show you lack the capability to be responsible ... I'm sure this aspect of the job is no surprise to you; you knew what you were signing up for.

Do you get compensated for taking on this extra responsibility? If you do then I would say, Absolutely. If you don't I would still go in, but I would be very pissed at the guy that didn't show. Unfortunately, most salary positions do not get paid when there are unexpected problems. However, they do get paid vacation and paid health benefits, and paid personal days....Need I go on...I guess grin and bear it, if you like your job. Good Luck...

Why not, I don't want to go to work tomorrow but will never hear the end of it if I don't (From the Wife, and my Boss for the matter). You shouldn't then, that sucks you had to fill in and even crappier that you are on salary but I guess that is how you get extra days off.

Depends on your company's policy...our requires 8 hours off between shifts so I'd have to go....being that it's going to the be Friday of a long weekend, you'd probably be viewed as a slacker if you didn't (Sorry)

Check with your supervisor. If they say its OK not to come in tomorrow then don't. But if you feel like an a*s even asking..then you'd better just suck it up and go in. Maybe you could leave early as a bonus for staying late today.

You should be able to get a comp day, but don't just fail to show up, schedule it in advance so no one is caught unawares.
