Its a pretty straight forward book, actually. Its not exactly a literary masterpiece.

Having never read the book, I would say no. There are never any symbols in any work of literature and all words mean exactly what the say. And the words and letters are not symbols, but are actually just static blotches of ink on paper with no significance.
