The madness doesn't end after you get your braces off, you still have to wear those stupid retainers for the next 2-3 years and still get checkups just like you had your braces on. To me, it's just like having on your braces all over again except for the fact that you don't have to wear them all of the time and you can remove your retainers from your teeth at a certain time and not only that, you also have to keep up with those retainers. Stop me if i'm wrong but, it's good that they say congratulations that people can see your pearly whites but not when you still have metal in your mouth.

They say Congratulations because you've traded a mouth of crooked teeth for a mouth of beautiful straight teeth. I didn't mind wearing my retainer (I think I only had to wear it at night.) It was a lot better than having those bands and wires on my teeth! Of course I had the old fashioned braces that went all around your whole tooth. Not those nice new clear ones that only stick on the front of your teeth.

Having retainers is the last step of the orthodontic treatment. It's to help maintain the position the braces had created for a certain time-frame. It may seem terrible because you still need to go to the orthodontist for checks but that's necessary to monitor if your teeth-alignment has gone wrong.

They say congratulations because think about it..would you rather have metal that has to get tightened and is there 24/7 or would you want to just deal with metal that can come off and stuff? When you take pictures..just take it off...you can't do that with braces.

they say congragulations because they want to make you feel good about yourself after wearing stupid dorky metal wires in your mouth for 2 years and still being normal afterwards, they feel pride after seeing your perfectly organized mouth and feel they've acomplished perfection after every client has had they're time w/ their braces. retainers are just supposed to help you maintain your perfect smile and insure that they last a lifetime :)

that IS a good question! i'd say probably because they no longer have to deal with you every 8 weeks like they did before. Also, your retainers aren't as noticeable as your braces are, so its like your finished with orthodontics forever. But you're not... but you're closer.

Probably because you don't have to brush your teeth directly after every meal cause you won't have all that crap getting stuck in your braces anymore. Also, because your teeth are now straight.

they say, "CONGRATULATIONS" because it took A LOT of time, patience and effort to straighten out your teeth. it's not always a 100% guarantee that braces will straighten teeth completely.
just make sure you use your retainer religiously!
