Daniel is right the oil pressure switch acts as a back up in case the relay fails when oil pressure rises pump comes on . There is a short to ground or the fuel pump is pulling to much current due to one of many resons .

This car uses a circuit in the oil pressure switch to control the electric fuel pump in the event that there is a loss of oil pressure.
If the car has experienced the sort of electrical load that it blew the fuse, then the fuel pump is failing.
Since you used a higher rated fuse, you defeated the purpose of the fuse, and caused wiring damage to your car.
You can locate a repair harness at either the dealer, or go the wrecking yard and cut out a used one for the oil sender.
As far as the fuel pump, replace it, the fuel strainer AND the fuel filter. Then replace the relay and replace the fuse with the recommended rating. Save the car. The pump, fuse, relay etc are all less expensive than the car, not to mention the cost of a fire that may cause you to lose control and wreck, possibly injuring yourself or someone else.

No the switch is not causing the problem. Check your fuel pump wiring, from the pump to the computer. Something is shorting or drawing too many amps. Your first mistake was up-rating the fuse, you may have damaged even more components by doing that. Replace bad pump relay, and melted oil pressure switch. Replace fuse with proper rated fuse. The oil pressure switch is wired into the fuel pump circut to keep the engine running in case of a relay failure.

I had this same situation on my ninety 3 Silverado. became out to be the small rubber hose connecting the pump to the sending unit became into chop up and that i did no longer word it whilst changing the gas pump. i ought to hearken to the pump working however the gas never left the tank. I propose pulling the line off and make sure for your self the pump is doing its interest. in case you do no longer hear it working, its probably an electric powered situation.verify you analyze all of the floor connections and fuses.
