I stupidly wanted to read the little poem on the tag of one that was probably over ten years old. The paper tag is fine, but the red plastic fastener that holds the tag to the Beanie broke (more like splintered) in several places when I put the protector back over the tag. The Beany is being stored with its tag.
Would the fragility of the tag's fastener be the result of age, or less than ideal storage conditions on the part of the Beany's former owner? Should I just buy another of this Beany and be more careful from now on? Will the tag fasteners of newer Beanies I have become like this over time?

If you really don't have the knowledge or experience to address at least one of these questions, don't answer.

Probably the result of all of the above. If you must have one with the tag attached and can buy another, do so if you want to. Tag fasteners of your other Beanies will probably do the same thing eventually, but I can't tell you how long they will last. Beanies aren't worth much nowadays, anyway, so just do what you want for your personal enjoyment.

The value of that beanie just went way down with the breaking of the tag. It's probably as a result from improper storing from the last owner like you mentioned. If you collecting to just collect, that one would be fine, but if your wanting the value of the beanie, I'd get another of that beanie.

Ironically my daughter broke a Ty beanie tag of today. I just threw it away. It didn't matter to me. Its just a red lamented tag. The animal is the important part. She was upset, but she is two. It's not a big deal.

I agree with the person who said to use them as dustrags. I sold some at my grandfather's garage sale for 50 cents a piece. Not very good. And on the last day of selling them, I just gave them away free to little kids.

These little toys are now worthless. All of the fools who bought and saved them are in for a big surprise when they try to sell them for the big profits they expect. No one wants them anymore. Use them as dust rags.
