This really depends on your situation. My first child was 16 days late, so this exam occurred on a regular basis towards the end. With my last child, it was a planned c-section, so the doctor only checked once throughout the entire pregnancy. It didn't hurt at all-maybe a bit uncomfortable.

IE = internal exam.

HONESTLY.....
There really is very little reason to consent to one. How far dilated and effaced you are will really not tell anyone anything. You could be closed up tight as a drum and have a baby a couple of hours later. Or you could walk around for WEEKS dilated 3-4 cm.

Many midwives never do internal exams. They learn to read the mom by watching how she is acting instead of relying on just what they can feel in an internal exam.

The LESS internal exams you have the better. Every time someone sticks their hand in you there is a chance they can break your water. There is a chance, if your water is already ruptured, that they can introduce bacteria and infection. The LESS internal exams you get, the better.

During labor they do like to do them during a contraction, which can make it more uncomfortable.

My wife didn't get checked for dialation until we had the late night runs to the hospital(there were a few). They only really check when you think you are ready for birth and feel as though you are having contractions. Even then they have other ways to check before they do that. When they gave the test she acted as though she had only minor discomfort. But I will tell you that she forgot all about that after our child was born. If you are scared or worried now, don't be, everything will be fine, and you will forget all about it when you see the childs face for the first time.

I think IE means internal examination. (I could be wrong.) My dr. performed a digital(hands in there) exam pretty much every prenatal checkup. Probably more frequently near the end of term. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but more uncomfortable as the baby got bigger just from pressure. During delivery it was not pleasant at all, But by that time what is?

About the last two weeks or so of the pregnancy they check at every appointment. Then, when you're in labor, about every two hours. I didn't mind it because I kept thinking, if it goes up in cm, then I'm closer to having this baby. Good luck

i'm 31 weeks and getting into direction of the right comparable ingredient. It hurts so undesirable to arise out of my chair, or off the settee, and surprisingly off the mattress. At artwork immediately i had to flow this container on the floor, so i desperate to push it with my foot instead of attempting to %. it up. properly it felt like somebody punched me in the pelvic bone, and that i could no longer even get the container to budge. i've got study (in what to anticipate once you're watching for) that this sense is with the help of our pelvic bones stretching and moving to get waiting for beginning, alongside with the stress of the toddler moving down. they say that's totally well-known, yet purely in case i could enable your record understand (so will I!). stable success!
