As a model, I can answer this for you. I'm 5'11 and weigh 130 pounds. I first tried out for Model and Talent Search Canada but they wanted me to pay $630 with NO guaranteed acceptance and make me lose 10 pounds. I thought I was skinny enough and wasn't ready to be bribed so I said no.

I then became a dance teacher, and my boss' husband owns M.G.S Agency and wanted to do a photoshoot. He loved all the pictures and I then got the wonderful experience of doing a Bridal Fashion Show. There's a lot of pressure but in the end you feel so good about yourself without feeling like a typical model/snob/brat.

Now, I have an agent after auditioning through StarQuest (www.starquest.ca). They just recorded me on a video asking me questions. I had to pay a $43 registration fee, and then another $52.50 (You get $50 back) to find out who my agent was.

All in all, it's all about how you feel about yourself. If you think you have the attitude and personality then go for it. You DON'T have to look a certain way like most people think. Just don't be shy, be very outgoing, sometimes funny, and most importantly, just have fun.

Anyone can be a model as long as they have the right attitude, measurements are not set in stone people look for a unique look not just a few numbers. If you are happy with the work, and don't expect overnight success, you will be fine. If you are actually thinking about it here is some advise.

I have heard a lot of bad thing about SOME (not all) modelling agencies and how they make you pay for photos and photo sessions before they take you on then never give you any work. Always check with the local Better Business Bureau in teh US or Trading Standards in the Uk or Similar organisation elsewhere.

I think a better starting place before you go to agencies is if you have a friend who is reasonable with a camera (do not have to be a professional or even that good just okay) Just take 100 photos of yourself in different poses, clothing and backgrounds then pick out 10-20 nice photos. You can then use this as a portfolio, and even better instead of printing them which cost you money every time, host them on a website and get some business cards print with the website address on and just hand these out instead. This is a far cheaper way of doing it and with no RISK. You should never have to pay to get a job if you do there is a high chance it is a scam.

However if you would like a personal portfolio site please contact me and I will set you on up for free. I can design you a fully personalised flash website with as much or little information and then host it for you. This site can contain a gallery of your photos, personal information, list of work, contact details, etc or if you prefer just a couple of photos and nothing else. It can be password protected and all images will be protected as is humanly possible, or the photos can be available to download.

Examples of work can be provided on request. Just message me here if you want, I am a professional website designer but have lots of free time (and enough money) so I am currently doing free sites for small bands, small artist etc, basically anyone who could not afford them otherwise. I have my own hosting server so can offer hosting servers or you can host the site yourselves. No images sent to me will be used for anything other than your site and I will not give anyone your detail or link to the site. You will have complete control and the site can be removed or changed at any time. This is not a scam and I will design a site for FREE, I do not need the money, and enjoy working. If you do want it message me you can tell me what you want and how you want it done and I will help.

Depending how old you are I may require parents permission before i will do any work.

Modeling is hard to get into. Agencies are often looking for a certain "look" which you may or may not have. But with so many agencies out there today, you are bound to find your spot in the industry.

Of course, starting out isn't cheap. As it has been stated before, in order for an agency to even meet with you, it is typically required that you have some sort of portfolio put together. This usually includes at least one headshot (or two: one of you smiling and one of you not) and a full length body shot in a bathing suit..NO MAKE UP (of course this varies but it's best to be seen for what you are and not what you can be).

If you're considering modeling I wish you the best of luck :)

Quite difficult given that you wish to have the proper bone constitution. Also a few women simplest have the proper kind of face for a season or 2, and the modelling enterprise is continuously taking over and looking for brand new units, that means it is particularly competetive and also you fairly want anything to make you stand proud of the gang. You additionally must naked in brain the natural modelling profession simplest final three-four years at the moment.

you have to have the look that is selling at the moment for the great jobs.

get some good headshots taken by a professional and visit talent agencies (especially when they have "open calls"). you can always do commercials (they need all types of people: height, age, weight, ethnicities) as another option.
