Some breastfed babies never need to be burped. But some do. Bottle fed babies (as far as I know) always need burping (even if it's human milk in the bottle) because they swallow more air.

If I remember correctly, you are breastfeeding?

Sometimes breastfed babies don't need to be burped. If you fed him before he was upset and crying, odds are good there is no burp to bring up. Breastfed babies don't swallow a lot of air like bottlefed babies...after all there is no air in your breasts!

If you haven't yet, try laying him across your lap on his belly with his head hanging off one side of your legs and his legs hanging off the other side and pat him on the back. The pressure of your legs into his belly and the patting SHOULD do it if there is anything in there.

Or the "up and over the shoulder" move. You see people put a baby's head on their shoulder to burp them all the time. Actually, getting your shoulder more into his GUT instead of laying his head against it works better. Again.....it's the pressure of your shoulder into his belly.

Oh please dont listen to these people. You should try to burp your baby after every feeding, however, if he doesnt burp within 3-5 minutes, he probably doesnt need to. The reason infants burp is because they swallow air during feedings. However, they dont swallow air at every feeding! Thus, if they dont burp within 3-5 minutes, they dont need to burp. If they had air in their tummies, they would burp. It is entirely uncessary to try to burp your baby for 20 minutes. He doesnt need to burp is all! Leave him be. He isnt going to vomit in his sleep.

It depends on the age of the baby. Over three months babies should be able to burp by themselves, under that you need to keep trying or they will have stomach pains from the gas.

it just depends but i have an idea if he is in your arms and falls asleep rub his back or pat it lightly and maybe you will get a burp out of him or maybe he will burp on his own or just burp him as soon as he wakes up before you feed him again

yes you would need to if he hasn't burped for more than 20 minutes then he doesn't have to burp but if you try the next five minutes he might burp

When my mom burped us she literally had to spank it out of us. She had to start the whole way from our diapers and work her way up. If your baby still wont burp, just lay them down on a rag and it will be easy clean up from there.

Oh, heavens yes. Burp him. I remember staying up for two hours, half asleep, just patting away at my daughters back trying to get her to burb. Trust me....if they don't burb they will get an upset stomach. It always helped when I rubbed my daughters back in a circular motion.
