Dave Chappelle himself said that when he accepted the 50 million dollars, I think that's what it was, he told Comedy Central not to tell anyone. Dave Chappelle didn't want to lose touch with the people because you have to be able to relate to people to be funny. However, if people knew how much money he was going to make, he would be considered a celebrity, not a person. However, word about his business deal got out and Dave Chappelle realized if he went along with the deal now that people knew about it, he was going to lose that connection with the people he needed to keep the show funny. He also had some problem with the racial joke about the pixie thing that told people how to act at certain times. Dave was all about being honest, but he was in no way racist, he just wanted to let people know what was on everybody's mind so that we could all reach a level of unity. When middle class white kids are going around saying, "I'm Rick James *****!" It's really reminiscent of the days white boys immitated Bill Cosby, not because he was black, but because he was funny. Dave Chappelle will continue doing stand up and movies, but he won't lose touch with the people, so he will continue being funny. Honestly, nobody turns down 50 million dollars as a scheme, he just wanted to stay funny and true to the fans.

Nothing has "happened" to Dave Chapelle. The new contract they offered him was for 50 million dollars, and with it came tons of rules and people trying to control his creative process. As a comedian, I think he did the right thing by blowing them off. Or at least he could have told them who was in charge and to ease up on him. He blew town to wind down and all his co-workers talked horribly about him like he was in rehab or had disappeared. He left town to ease the pressure - i would have done the same thing. He is still the funniest guy i can think of (other than Chris Rock) and he is just fine. Check out his movie the block party - its very cool.

I think he had an epiphany about how he was making all that money and how there are so many poor people that he felt so guilty he had a breakdown, and now he can't go back to making all that money.

Only he knows...

As long as he keeps presenting fresh, entertaining material (I loved Block Party) -- what difference does it make! He's entiltled to his privacy as much as everyone else is.

he did not want to give up his creative control in exchange for the huge contract...remember, he was already rich...that is why he went to africa in order to mull it over..and decided not to prostitute himself..
