you need straight As. you need to go to a good high school (or college if you are applying to graduate school), you need leadership experience, i.e. class president, editor of news paper. You need a compelling story to talk about ( how you spent a summer in africa helping children with HIV; how you overcame being paralyzed when you were hit by a car; etc.). you need to show that you can handle a heavy work load, for example, you went to school and had a part time job and was on the basketball team for 4 straight years. finally, you need good letters of recommendation from people who really know you.

I have not gone to Harvard, but I would definitely want to go in the future. To get into Harvard, you need at least a 4.0 GPA ( unweighted), and it would be better for you to be in the top 2 of your class. Try to take the hardest available classes at your high school. You also need really high SAT scores; they used to be in the 1500s range. Also, grades aren't everything. Extracurriculars are very important; I know a person who was valedictorian and had good SAT scores but only got into Boston U since he had not extracurriculars. Take up sports and intruments; join clubs at school and do volunteer work or find a job. Also, if you win awards for your extracurricular, you'll be better off. I play the violin, and I'm in the state orchestra. It shows you excel at something outside of school. I sort of contradicted myself int he beginning; have extra activities but only focus on a couple. Harvard says it wants dedication to a select few...but you have to stand out in the chosen area. Hope this helps.

Here's what I could find
1. You need to be in the Top 10% of high school students: 90%
2. Also you need this: SAT I score (25/75 percentile): 1400-1580
3. Plus it helps to show you do extracurricular work after school
4. Yes, you need straight A's
5. You have to have money, or be one of the lucky ones who qualify for their financial aid programs.
Good Luck!

A lot of luck, a great GPA from high school, lots of extracurricular activities, very high test scores and it wouldn't hurt if your father was an alumni.
