I drive an '02 VW Jetta GLS 1.8T with about 54K miles. I had the battery and alternator tested at a local car stereo installer, they were fine. And they said there was like a .40 milliamp pull on the battery when the ignition is off, which they said was normal. Any ideas on what to check or replace?

First you need to go to an auto repair shop NOT an audio store and have it checked.

If you still have an original battery it coulld be going bad. To test the battery you need to measure the voltage with the load - mechnics have special testers for that. I doubt car stereo installer has that tester. I'd suppose they just measured the voltage of the battery whitout the load which won't tell anything about the condition of the battery. Go to the reputable garage and test the battery to begin with.

it could be a power antenna problem (if you have one) the 4milliamp pull is from the car computer and the clocks/radio presets, the other possability is that the battery tests fine when fully charged but if you need to jump start it once in a while its time for a new battery

F u c k! What is wrong with people? If you don't know take it to a repair shop, there people fix cars for a living and have more experience than you. Stereo guys install stereos, the do not know how to do an 'AVR' (Amperage, voltage resistance test) TAKE IT TO A SHOP!

sounds like the alternator. since the battery is taking a charge and holding it for a couple of days,i would say the battery is good.
