I assume you mean emotionally rather than geographically...

It hasn't been my experience. I have four siblings and all of us are pretty close to our parents.

My two grown daughters, who are considered only children, are pretty close to my husband and me.

Each situation has its own advantages and disadvantages. ; )

I'm sure that in some cases that is true, even when they become adults.

I doubt that it is always true, though. Some only children were raised by nannies, sitters, sent to boarding schools and camps, and had parents who they actually had very little to do with them (which of course happens in families with siblings, as well).

Not in my case, that's for sure. I was never close to my mom, she was very abusive, and I didn't meet my dad til I was 24. I've never gotten along with him either because he never wanted a child, even now that I'm 33, he still doesn't want a damn thing to do with me, I'm just a haunt from his past.
