I have one pet mouse, but I wonder if he gets too lonely by himself.

I breed mice as well as work at a pet store :D

If you have a male mice it is recommended that you keep him by himself. He may seem lonely to you, but male mice are very territorial especially as they get older and/or have been bred. The one who decides he is the alpha will continually pick on and bully the other mouse, often until the other mouse is killed either by injury or stress.

As long as you keep your male mouse occupied than he will be very happy by himself :D Depending on the size of your tank or cage (a single mouse should be housed in a 5.5gallon tank or larger) you can add toys like cardboard tubes and boxes, and sometimes even rope and wood bird toys. All mice should also have a solid wheel. This helps them burn off energy, but make sure that it isn't a wire wheel as this can lead to foot, back, tail or neck injuries.

If you have or plan on having female mice then they absolutely should be housed at least in pairs. Female mice, unlike males, are *very* social animals and will be a lot happier and healthier with others of their own kind. Most will get along just fine after some initial squabbling while they decide who's boss.

Mice do fine alone.

DO NOT put male mice together, they WILL fight! The strongest one WILL KILL the weaker one!

If you do get another mouse make sure they are both females. They will be less likely to fight.

If that mouse had a male cage mate he'd run him to death or fight all the time! Females would have babies..take him out and play with him. He'llbe ok. Hope he has a wheel to run on.

I think mice are social critters. Another one wouldn't be that hard to take care of.
