Compare and contrast the experiences of African-Americans and one other disadvantaged group in their respective struggles for civil rights after 1928. What similarities do you see between them? That's what I've tried to do for years as a professor in an ethnic studies department that compares African Americans, Latin and Native Americans, Hawaiians and Filipinos. All were made part of the U.S. as a result of war and forced migration or occupation. Each have made gains but are recovering and still far from the goal of equity. It's a trap to say that one has it better than another. Until all Americans learn to understand and respect one another, a culture of war will make us scapegoats for the nation's anger.

But as a suggestion: For an interesting comparison, try Native Americans ('Indians'). To really get some sparks flying, try comparing and contrasting A-A's with homeosexuals.
