Buy the "2006 Writer's Market" book. It will tell you what the different publishing companies are looking for. Remember to never give up. Dr. Suess sent his first book to over 100 publishers before someone agreed to publish it.

Become a Hollywood or musical celebrity, a high-profile politician, or one of the rich and famous brats. Otherwise, it's a hard climb to reach publication of your works.
Research through a Writer's Market book for an appropriate literary agent, learn how to format and submit your manuscript, and above all, learn how to write a most powerful query letter that will be sure to gain attention of the first agent's assistant when he rips open the envelope.
If you don't want to do it the hard way and you have front-money to spend, consider contacting a subsidy publisher or print-on-demand publisher. They'll publish anything just as long as they get your money first. It could cost you anywhere from $5,000 to $20,000, depending on the novel, type of layout and design, and how much legwork you're willing to do to advertise it by yourself.
Good luck.

A publishing company decides to publish or not based on how much money they think they can makewith your work.
Keep submitting your work to publishing houses. Good Luck!!

A good query letter to an agent - find a list of agents interested in your genre.. please understand that there is enormous competition - even if your work is excellent, it is not easy to get noticed out there - - publishers want you to have an agent.. agents work on commission, so don't ever pay for upfront fees or reading fees etc.. if all else, and you want a quick fix, you can self publish - - but there are plenty of good resources for all the above available on the internet - many agents have tips for writing a good query letter too - - best of luck - hope you make it!!

I am also an aspiring writer, I have a really great friend and mentor who used to be my teacher who is an editor for several different publications now, and he has been helping me a lot...he suggested for me to buy a book entitled The Writers Market and it comes out with a new Edition every year...I have the 2006 edition right now and it is a very helpful book...it lists all the different publishers in every genre as well as magazines, etc. It has their addresses, their guidlines and everything else you need to know to send in manuscripts and stories...it has really helped me a lot...hope this helps :) and Good Luck!

Ditto most of the comments above. Remember, finding a publisher is often harder than writing. Check out the Predators and Editors web page before you sign up with anyone. Good luck.

Just keep sending your stuff to different ones until you find one willing to take a chance on you. Don't get discouraged even if you collect a pile of rejection slips.
