He also hung out with Timothy Leary & used Ouija boards.

First was his "white light" experience under the influence of belladonna and barbiturates.
He suffered from depression and was treated for it. He was very interested in the use of medications to control it, so he took whatever was available in those days, probably lithium. He later became convinced in the use of high dosages of B vitamins, but was muzzled by AA elders who didn't want him "sharing" his views on nutrition.
He also experimented with LSD, trying to re-create his white-light experience.
