Hmmmm, now if you are referring to when the term "Black" first became popular... I think in the 40's and 50's. Then no she would have not have been famous during that time of American society. Because she is an African-American of the 80's and 90's she is famous, but it is not because of her color. She has a great talent in many aspects of life. Short answer... if you are using terms related to eras of society, then no. Of course black is still used, but many find it offensive or lessing. Personally I believe in not the hyphanation of American peoples. We are all American and though we have our cultural differences, we bleed the same color and have the same flag. No matter what one thinks we are the first experiment on bringing so many cultures together in the world. The Roman's didn't even have the same number or the same equality. Only Roman men had right too. And though we have some real flippin problems we also have some really great qualities. Of course narrow minded people will never see those, but let them speak anyway.

I personally don't think she would be as famous if she weren't black.
I think it's the whole 'rising above adversity' thing that makes everyone love her so much- she came from a poor family and also fought against the prejudice against blacks to become one of the highest respected and paid women in the world.
People seem to think that life's so much easier when you're white... or that white people are wealthier than blacks... I don't know if there's any statistics to suggest this, but I don't really think it's true-- there's a LOT of prejudice against white people, believe it or not and we still suffer the same difficulties with money, etc.
I acknowledge that racism against blacks is probably more prominent in society still, but it doesn't mean that it isn't there for whites... it pisses me off that white people can rag on blacks and have the hell beaten out of them for it, and yet, I hear asians, lebonese, blacks, etc. bagging out whites all the time and everyone just accepts it. It should be the same standards right across the board. There are good and bad people, no matter what culture you're from.

I don't think he/she who asked this question is dumb...but they are asking if she acted more "black", the way people stereotypically see black people as acting, would she be famous?
Or maybe I'm completely off and the person is just retarded...

Color doesn't matter. She would of found power anyway she could. Aside from that Bush has too much power and he's white. Don't even know why he's still in the white house.

Wow....................... you are kidding right?
Where have you been for the last 20 or so years?
To answer your question............. she has talent and it would not make a difference if she was any color... she could be purple with white dots.
Go Oprah..............................
