i have a1998 pontiac grand prix 151,000 miles, with 3.1 v6 engine, it has a small coolant leak, it's coolant for sure.it seems to be a slow "seeping" coming from or around the water pump only while driving stop & go with ac on in town.temp gauge is ok. no lights coming on, no steam, the engine is not running "hot"
once vehicle warms up. hoses tight, clamps tight.after 20 30 minutes once parked, about a half of a beer can or about, 6-10 oz. of coolant will slowly leak onto the driveway. last summer, did the same thing, & i put 4 of those GM brand, radiator tablets into the radiator. it stopped until now. i had radiator flushed , cleaned at 30,000 miles at pontiac dealer. does it matter if i run the extended life coolant in it. or can i just run a 50/50 mix?
is their "add in" radiator "stop leak" that you would recommend that i could just pour in to the radiator myself?
if so, is this the "kiss of death" for my radiator if i ever want to have the radiator serviced.ido not much$

The best thing to do is the water pump replaced. that seeping is probably coming from the bearing seal around the shaft. The continued seeping will "eat" at the bearing and your leak will get worse. DO NOT POUR THESE STOP LEAKS INTO YOUR RADIATOR. IT WILL ONLY STOP UP THE RADIATOR AND DOES TEND TO STOP UP THE THERMOSTAT.

It sounds like the condition is actually condesation on the outside of your coolant condenser. This will occur on hot days if you are running the A/C continuously. If is in fact the water pump that is leaking, the best thing to do would be to buy one at a pep-boys or other parts store, this will include the gasket that is likely faulty. Also buy a Chiltons or Haynes auto repair book. The total cost should be about $80 and will allow you to repair the pump yourself, saving you hundreds over the cost of factory maintenance.

Personally, I'd be more worried about the water pump, than the radiator. Replacing a radiator is a pretty simple job as compared to a water pump.

151 thousand miles tells me the water pump seal is going away take it to a shop get the pump replaced flush the radiator and block and you'll be good for another 151thousand miles if the car lives that long good luck Denny

Hey, Well from the sound of it you should just have the water pump replaced. I am a mechanic and those engines are pretty easy to work on so you can just take to a shop and ask around to compare prices. It sounds like you have done enough to try to elude this problem. well good luck pal.

The water pump bearing seal is going out. There is a weep hole at the center of the water pump shaft housing for just that purpose. It lets you know that your water pump bearings are about to take a dump on you.

There is no easy fix for this.

You need to have your water pump replaced.

How about you take it to a shop and get hem to do a pressure test on the system, then you will find the leak they will tell you how much it will costs to fix the problem and then guess what moron, no more coolant leak!
