Did anyone have a urinary tract infection in early pregnancy that caused spotting? I just found out that I have a urinary tract infection and I think it may be responsible for my spotting. I read online about spotting and it said that a urinary tract infection can cause spotting.

I am going to the doctor tomorrow. I was just wondering if this has happened to anyone else.

With a more severe urinary tract infection (UTI), you will get spotting from the urethra as there is blood in the urine. Your doctor will most likely prescribe an antibiotic and lots of fluids. You should start drinking lots of fluids as soon as you can. Cranberry juice and as bad as it sounds asparagus juice (cooled) will both help ease the burning of a UTI. If you ignore or wait to go to a doctor over a UTI you risk the chance of a full blown bladder or kidney infection. Please see your doctor as soon as possible.

You probably have bleeding from your urethra due to the urinary infection instead of uterine spotting. But just to be sure you could call your ob/gyn or midwife. Even if it's after hours, they will have someone on call to answer your questions. When in doubt call your dr. or if you experience a lot of bleeding or cramping you should go to the hospital right away.

If you have a pretty nasty UTI, you can have blood in your urine. I've had a couple bad ones (not during pregnancy though) and when I bled from them, a) I noticed it only when I wiped myself after using the toilet; and b) the blood didn't look like regular blood...it was very light, watery, and sort of a watermelon pink color. Your best bet would be to go to your doctor and have them do a urinalysis. They can tell you then if the blood is coming from your urine or your uterus.

No matter what you will need to go to the doctor and get it checked out. It's better to be safe than sorry. Call and make an appointment, if it gets bad, seek medical attention immediately.

this is normal but if you do have a uti then you need to go to the doctor and get it taken care of because it can lead to a kidney infection and you will have to be hospitalized until it is taken care of.
