The Black Mamba and Taipan have very powerful venom with a mortality rate of almost 100% without antivenin. The Krait has a mortality rate of 50% with antivenin.

Well, snakes aren't actually poisonous, they are venemous. The difference between the two is that something is poisonous if it harms you when you eat it, something is venemous if it bites or stings you and releases toxins into your body that way.

The land snake generally thought to have the most potent venom is the inland taipan (sometimes called the 'fierce snake'). This snake is found in Australia. Luckily the inland taipan lives in a fairly unpopulated area, so although its venom is extremely potent, people don't run into it very often.

Probably the most 'dangerou's snakes are the Russells Viper and Asian Cobra. Although their vemon is less strong than the inland taipan they live in heavily populated areas where many people work in fields, often with no shoes, so many people get bitten.

That's under debate in the scientific community. The one that can kill more people per drop of venom is the Fierce snake in Australia. I think a hundred of people could be killed by one drop, but you have roughly ten minutes to get to a hospital for treatment. However, the fastest killing snake is the two step snake. I don't know it's real name. It lives in the forests of Vietnam. If you get bit, you basically have enough time to tell your buddies, "Bye", and boom, you're on the ground dead. The mambas, black and green, are in the top ten, but I think at most are number 4 and 5.
