It depends on the capacity of the hard disk. How much GB is ur hard disk? Mine primary master hard disk is 40 GB and i've made it into 11 pieces (partitions) and on the primary slave hard disk which is same 40 GB i just made 4 partitions (i'll break it into more pieces when time permits me). U can make ur hard disk into number of pieces but for os alone u need to leave one partition of 3 GB (for windows 98 SE / XP) u should not install any programs in this drive. install the programs in another drive of 5 GB and on another drive just copy only games, another one for songs, another one for movies another one for photos another one for softwares another for another things. contact me at j2v2k6-tech@yahoo.co.in And believe me ur OS will be fast than the normal computers. i've been using in the same manner with two OSs for the past 4 years.

You can have up to four partitions, either all primary or up to three primary and one extended. An extended partition can contain up to 23 logical drives, D through Z, in Windows.

you can make as many partitions as you have letters for "a" and "b"
are reserved for your floppy drive "c" - "z" leave 24 sections... thats a little unnecessary, i wouldn't recommend more than 5 unless you need to have them... its also slower to move data between partions on the same drive than a solid drive because windows can just edit the entry in the FAT instead of actually moving the data
