There is actually a place where you can allocate Windows Virtual Memory for ensuring that your windows have sufficient memory. Please also remember that this virtual memory is from your HD, so ensure that your HD has sufficient space to be converted into temporary Virtual memory.
You can go to control panel>system>advanced>performance setting>advanced>virtual memory. This is where you will be able to set your virtual memory. Note that if your virtual memory is low, you might not be able to conduct scans as it will need that virtual memory to create an image of the scan before the scan.
try increasing the virtual memory and then rescan the com.
i hope this helps.
Cheers,

You'll most likely have to close some memory-intensive programs to free up some ram.

Or better, go and buy another 512 mb ram stick. 512mb - 1gb ram should be sufficient nowadays, assuming you have a decent computer bought in the past 2-3 years.

Depends on how much ram you have as to how well it's going to work.
A lot depends on how old your computer is, too..
Also, now and then, empty your caches.
