why is it so many dads "can't afford" to pay their child support???

But they have no trouble coming up with a couple grand instantly to pay a lawyer to try to get out of it???

sgl mom, this poor woman that works at child support enforcement who is trying to help me asked me, "can't we just shoot him?" Sad, but he'd be worth more to his daughter dead than alive at this point. Doesn't pay, doesn't visit.

This is a no-brainer: The ex-spouses (usually dads) who do not have custody do NOT want to support the children they are genetically responsible for in ANY way (no Financial, Emotional, Mental, Parental Help -- NOTHING). They come up quick with the lawyer fees when they are FINALLY Caught via either the mother or other responsible parent filing with the state for NON-Payment of Child Support or some other reason (like they abused the children and/or responsible parent).

I am SICK and TIRED of the DEADBEAT ABUSER! This is added on top of the substantial responsibility for RAISING ALONE (100% custody) MY two disabled children (who are now late teens) AND paying for their COLLEGE Costs as well as ALL Their medical needs. WHY Can't these DEADBEATS just be PUT IN JAIL and have SUBSTANTIAL FINANCIAL penalties for their ABUSE of the Legal System, the Legal Process, and the Children/Ex-Spouse who is RESPONSIBLY raising the Children on HER own!!!!!

These are deadbeats in the truest sense of the word. It is abominable that some lawyers go out of their way to deny that their client has any location, funds to pay child support, keep putting in delay after delay, and then just send threatening letters to the Responsible parent. All this time -- the goal of the Deadbeat and his attorney is to DENY their responsibility under Child Support or Divorce Decrees already written.

It dont cost a couple of grand for a lawyer. But the answer is that the courts make a man pay up to 25% of his gross income before tax and then he has to pay another 27% in income tax and get no tax exemption for the child at the end of the year and then owes taxes again at the end of the year. On top of that he has to pay for insurance and out of pocket expenses for the child. Lets see where that leaves us. Close to 80% of his income is gone before he sees any for himself to live off of. Plus if the man tries to make a little on the side or get a second job to make ends meet, the woman tries to increase the support. We would feel better about it if the courts considered men equal in custody. But its usually the woman that is a bad parent but always gets the kids. Not fair. If the shoe was on the other foot you would b***h too.

Laws require payment to be attached to their pay check. Or they cannot renew their drivers license or the IRS takes it when they file or you cannot get a pass port. Get a lawyer.

Anyway I think the husband is bitter and cannot see giving the money to the spouse. I'm one of these guys, I pay the support every week but come on she shouldn't depend on me. I'd rather take the kids cloths shopping and the such because god knows what she's spending the money on, the kids never have new cloths or toys etc. No the woman would rather keep cranking babies out and and live off support and welfare. I think the laws are bias towards women.

Because they dont feel it is their responsibility once estranged from the mother. There are plaenty of dads who do pay child support but who get shafted by their ex who holds the kids "ransom" until she can get more money.

But then there are just the losers of the bunch who feel like they can make as many kids as they want because they arent being held responsible for it. If they cracked down- and I mean, once a parent gets like 1000 behind they have to spend a week in jail, no exceptions, they may start to pay. Or require them to gt a job in a certain amount of time and if they dont, have the cities hire them on as super low paid employees and take 60 percent of their check until the realize they could make better easier money by getting their own job.

because to the man it feels like he is giving the money to his ex wife. Really she can do what she wants with the money, how is he to know that it will be used for the kids? I think the courts need to work out a more fair system so that the money the men give to the kids, is USED only and solely for the kids. Perhaps if they paid directly for schooling, or health care or gave clothing or food stamps instead of just cash.

Then again there ARE some men who just don't want to pay.

They also don't have any trouble coming up with the money for their two pack a day habit and their 24 packs of Bud Light. They also are not above quitting a descent paying job and either going on unemployment or taking a minimum wage job to avoid paying or to get the amount of support lowered. Of course these are the guys who have moved on to and in with a woman stupid enough to support the schmuck.

It is not that they can't afford it. They are dead beats and dump it all on the moms. Sad. Those children are victims of society and have such a sad life. That is why we have so many troubled children too. The moms have to go work to support the children because the dads do not give them money and the kids are left alone. sad.

This is really a sore subject. Dead beat parents make me so mad! They just do not want to provide support, most of them actually can!
Take his sorry dead beat butt to court and make him pay. Garnish his wages! Do not take no for an answer. So many women and some men just give up. That is what the attorneys and dead beat want to happen. If you can not afford to fight him try legal aide!

Reverse the situation,Imagine your paying for child support..As far as my experience .I was paying half of my take home salary each month..Which was $2,000. Try to pay for rent ,food,bills etc..with this budget..With the cost of apartments now a days..Also my ex wife had purchased a new car and laughing her a s s off because I was actually paying for her car..When I saw my kids,my kids were telling me that She wasn't buying anything for them..

Overall,Not all of the man are Dead Beats..
Note: I have full custody of kids now and my ex wife doesn't give me child support.
Some women are DEAD BEATS TOO!!!!

That is the best statement I have heard. Move to Massachusetts, they have the most strict laws on child support and if they do not pay, they go to jail, if they do not make enough, they are told to get a better job or go to jail. Men need to stop making babies if they cannot take on the responsibility
