a million)y^2 + 8y = 0 y(y+8)=0 Now: y = 0 or y = -8 2) x^2 + 3x -28 = 0 you should finished the sq.: x2 + 3x = 28 Now look on the term in front of the x.. you halve that and sq. it and upload it to the two aspects. (a million/2)*3 = 3/2 (3/2)^2 = 9/4 x^2 + 3x + 9/4 = 112/4 +9/4 Now as you will discover the 9/4 cancels out, meaning we've not replaced the unique equation in any respect! yet we don't cancel out the 9/4 right here. We simplifiy the desirable suited edge: x^2 + 3x + 9/4 = 121/4 Now: x^2+3x+9/4 = (x+3/2)^2 --> by using fact we achieved the sq.: (x+3/2)^2 = 121/4 x+3/2 = sqrt(121/4) x+3/2 = +/- 11/2 x = +/- 11/2 -3/2 So: x = -14/2 = -7 or x = 8/2 = 4

I entered your expression into my TI-82, and got the following solution: -.0137646014. And no, I have no idea how it computed this, since you didn't assign values to x or y.

18x+18y

4(4x^3y)+^2(x+^3y)=
16x+12y+2x+6y=
16x+2x=18x
12y+6y=18y
there for 18x+18y is the answer i think
