will we have hard time getting back in to the united states?

no...i went to cancun and didn't have to have a passport...customs was not bad at all....you just need a picture id and your birth certificate....have a blast....it is so much fun!!!

I was in puerto vallarta last year and i did have a passport. The customs officer did tell me that as of January 2006 it will be mandatory to have a passport due to new 9/11 regulations. Some custom officers are really strict so don't take a chance, besides it's alot faster when you have a passport. Have fun i'll be in Cancun in Sept also!

You need an official photo ID, if you don't have a drivers license, than a school ID. Also, you will need an original birth certificate, a copy of it won't do. If you don't have original with raised seal, etc., request one from where you were born and they will send you a copy that is authenic. Going into Mexico is not much of a problem, its getting back in to the states. Its easier to be an illegal alien and sneak in than it is to come back in without proper documents. Thats our government.

state issued id and an original notarised copy of your birth cert.next year you will need a passport though.customs is easy.
