Boy, that's a hard question because I have so many really great memories of childhood. It makes me sad to think of people who are robbed of their youth. Anyway, I loved Christmas. We didn't have much money, but that wasn't a problem because we had lots of imagination and faith. Every year, my dad would round us up on Christmas Eve and tell us we were going to ride around looking at other people's pretty Christmas lights (we loved that because we didn't have our own), and we would also try to spot Santa's sleigh. At some point in time, he would drive us to a hill overlooking town where we could see all the glowing stars in the winter sky. Then we would crack our windows and listen for the bells on the reindeer. I swear to this day that we heard them every year. It was magic. When we got home, Santa had been there and eaten our cookies and drank our milk. We had been so close to seeing him. While our presents were very modest, our joy was great. Somehow my dad and mom created a magical childhood for two kids who lived in near poverty and who moved several times a year. These magical moments from long ago still make me smile.

I grew up in the Bronx (New York).
On the next block where we lived stands (to this day still) a school with a big lawn that takes up the entire block.
I used to go there just to look at a beautiful black and white pony grazing on the grass.
When I go back there, I don't see a pony anymore.
The Bronx used to be rural-like. Now with ordinances and zoning laws, things of beauty like that you won't find there.
Wish I had that pony grazing in my backyard now instead of me doing all the lawnmowing.
Nobody has horses around here, but they used to.
Anyone from the Bronx? Maybe remember that school?

I have a couple of them.
One being taken to Dairy Queen in Jan with my brother and being told to order anything I wanted. (I got a large sundae) and my father told us about my sister being born that morning.
The other is the Christmas after my father passed. I was five, he passed in September.
My mother did not want to spend the holidays without her family so she flew us from MN to Ohio (where she's from). We had a nice Christmas with her family members. What was memorable was the fact that after we returned home , a house that had not been decorated or anything before we left for the airport, was decked out for Christmas and a pile of gifts under the tree! We really believed in Santa that year and for a few years after that.
(I learned later that the neighbors that were getting the mail and so forth got together and did that for us).

Us four kids would sit around in our parents bedroom and talk for what seemed like hours with our parents and each other about our day, each other, life just everything. We would have fun and make fun of each other laugh and have a good time until the folks would get sleepy and kick us out (send us to bed). Those were the good ol' days!

Memories with my brother... he passed away last year, but we used to have a lot of fun. We would sneak out of the house, and usually get caught by my mom and tell on each other, lol. Or he would bring a whole bunch of people in our house and I wouldn't tell when my mom got home... good ole times, lol...

Going to Navajo Dam in Farmington, New Mexico with my parents and my sister and lazily riding inner tubes with my sister while my Mom made our lunch. Sitting next to my Father while he drove our boat all around. Seeing my mother laugh and smile at our antics. Riding in the back of his Jeep on our way back home and falling asleep against my sister and not having her elbow me to move.

This one is one that I happened to remember when I was sitting outside recently. I was in my friends backyard and we were looking up at the stars trying to count the satellites. It was fun trying to see these things that looked like stars, but they were moving. I cannot even remember how many we saw, but hey we were having fun. I think we were even about baseball and he and I could talk baseball.
