engagement ring because its worth more and if one falls off you want it to be the band, not the diamond.

Traditionally, the wedding ring goes on first, because it's supposed to remain closest to your heart.After the ceremony, the wife usually puts on the engagement ring in front of the wedding band, but it's really up to the bride and whatever's more comfortable to her-I've seen married women with the rings on the other way around, and others who wear only their wedding band after the big day.

I think the band first that is a formal relationship between two big families,the woman side and the man side.Engagement should be agreed upon by the two big families. not only by both related man and woman theirselves.The man's family usually come to the woman's family to get together and discuss the planning for formal engagement ceremony and marriage ceremony in the near future.
In the engagement ceremony,the man's family will bring some gifts for tha woman's family,included the ring.The woman'family will set up an adhoc committee for this ceremony.But in muslim tradition,there are no engagement ring.The man's family will give only the agreeable mahar or pre wedding present in the proposal ceremony or in the wedding ceremony itself such as holy qutr'an, money,gold and jewels ornaments and praying carpet.Engagement ring is a tradition in christian ceremony,but now there are many muslims gave engagement rings too.

I think the band goes on first and then the engagement ring.
But to be honest, I dont think it really matters. I've seen women with thier rings on both ways, but mostly the first way I mentioned.
