What I'm saying is that say you were born in Puerto Rico you are considered a puerto rican there because that's what they call their citizens, that's where i was born but i'm really of Puerto Rican descent. Some people born in Puerto Rico might think they are Puerto Rican the race because they were born there but that is not true, same for any other spanish country that's the way it is

I think it's a lack of education and they just don't have the smarts to find out for sure. Most people here in the US think if someone speaks spanish, they must be from Mexico, not always true. I guess it's because we have a large popuation from there, so they just assume that any one speaking spanish is from there instead of another country.

In my way of thinking, an Hispanic is anyone with a Latin or Spanish heritage. If they are from Puerto Rico, Mexico, Spain, etc I consider them Hispanic. This may be incorrect, but it's what I was taught.

Because usually if you speak spanish and thought to be hispanic then you LOOK hispanic. As for why would consider yourself hispanic race I thinkit is everyone Pointing to themselves and saying "I'm irish" or "German", etc and if come from a Latin country then technically ethnicity is hispanic.
Not saying right just what is

I don't think any of that. There are plenty of people who are of various ethnic decents that speak Spanish and many other languages. The idea that someone born in a certain country doesn't make them of that heritage, either. It's all common sense, I don't see why people would think otherwise.

Hispanic doesn't refer to your country of origin. It's a spanish-speaking culture. it's not as much about your race as to what you identify with.
