The easiest way is to use Firefox as you're internet browser. Much better than Internet Explorer. When you downloaded firefox go to "tools" and click on "extensions" and "search for more extensions". Search for the extension name "Shazou" and install it. Now you'll be able to not only find the IP address of a site but also see the location of it.

Ping will do the best, but if you are behind a strict proxy (in my collage) you may not be able to use ping command so search for sites offer free whois lookup , there you enter the site address you get not only the ip but a lot of info about the site

you can go to start, run, and type cmd and enter. a black box will come up, and just type:
ping www.thesiteyouwant.com
it will come back and say
"Pinging www.thesiteyouwant.com [the site's ip address] with 32 bytes of data"
