ive had my tounge peirced for 3 almost4 years now, and when i did get it done, the shop owner was very experienced, that helps- also, the inital percing wont hurt, more than you'll just be anxious. but afterword eat alot and alot of ice! it will swell, thats where the pain comes in play, pluse buy 'Listerine" mouthwash, they may/may not tell you, but that will help w/the swelling/pain. and some ppl get infections (its common, but if you use listerine, it will go away as soon as you get it) your body is not used to haven a piercing there, so it will go thru many measure to rid it, than heal around it. when you get it done, dont take it out for at least 6 months- to ensure that it is fully heald, i took it out at 3 and hadda re-peirce it myself. that was my own fault there. and as far as the speech impediment afterwords, that never happened to me, i just got used to it, it wasnt somethn i just forgot about, or not cared, i learned to talk with it, and nobody can tell unless i tell them :)

I had my tongue pierced 2x. The first time it was aweful, it hurt, there was some minor bleeding, and within about 10hrs I had shooting pain in my jaw - needless to say I took it out.
The second time it was perfect, nearly no pain, no bleeding, no complications, and within a week I was eating some solid foods.
I think it really depends on the piercer and the technique they use, and also where they pierce you on the tongue.
If I was you I would avoid the piercing all together, because there are a lot of risks with it. Since it's an open wound in your mouth you have to be careful of bacteria all the time - even after it heals. You also have the potential of breaking, cracking, chipping your teeth - which is why I no longer have my tongue ring in.
Then there is the other side to it - girls who wear tongue rings are "naughty" - or so the saying goes. There are other things you can do to be unique without getting a piercing a ton of people have.

I had my tongue peirced when I was 16 and it didnt hurt, but it felt weird and I actually passed out breifly from shock 5 minutes after when I stood up to leave. I never had that happen before or since. I took it out a year later though because I broke several plastic barbells, and the metal ones banged up my teeth too much. I actually chipped two teeth! It is difficult to eat for the first 3 or 4 days and still hurts for more than a week from the "pulling on it" when you move food around with your tongue. I would suggest lots of cold smoothies, except you cant "suck" on a straw, so you have to drink it straight from the glass or eat it with a spoon. Yeah I don't miss it. Too many people have placed stereotyped ideas on both males and females with their tongue peirced. Also durring the year that I had it, it migrated over 3/4 of an inch almost to the tip of my tongue. You can still see the line in my tongue where it healed.

Mine diddnt hurt at all but some things that can affect how much pain yours will bring are how thick your tongue is and how far back you want the piercing. the only reason i felt mine is because i opened my eyes while the 1st needle was in and it scared me. But after that i was fine. My hole is further back and my tongue swole up almost immediatly and i couldnt even eat ice cream but i put cold water and ice on it for the rest of ther night and within two days the swelling had gone down enough to eat some solid snacks. O some tips are to keep the mouth wash in your mouth until the artist is ready b/c the mouth wash kind of numbs it just relax and close your eyes lol lol

I had my tongue pierced a few years ago. When the needle first goes through, it really does not hurt. What hurts is the next few days when your tongue swells up to twice it's normal size. That is really painful.
Another piece of advice I can give you is that tongue piercing is VERY BAD for your teeth. I finally took mine out because my teeth had gotten really bad, and I had a toothache for about three weeks. The pain was cut in HALF as soon as I took out the tongue ring.
Hope this helps.

I got my tongue pierced five years ago on dare. When I got it done, it honestly felt like I had just bit my tongue and the pain was gone. I didn't have any bad experiences with it. They should give you a list of certain beverages and foods to stay away from for a while. You certainly don't want to get "thrash" or a yeast infection in your mouth. Also, I kept a bottle of mint Listerne with me at all times and continuely washed my mouth out for about the first month.

It is like a really hard pinch that lasts less then a second then it burns a little but by the time you pay the guy that is going away too
I had mine done twice
I went with a different friend both times and they both thought it would be worse then it was
the hard part is the next to weeks learning how to chew and talk
if you had your ears pierced then you can do your tongue

I didn't think the piercing was painful. It's the swelling that comes after and lasts a few days. I took mine out because I kept biting down on the bar bell and it was irritating. It healed in 24 hours. There is also a huge risk for infection on the tongue.

My husband has his tongue pierced. He said the actual piercing didn't hurt, but the swelling hurt for 2 days. Suck on lots of ice the first day, it helps alot. I had my belly button done last year, hurt like hell, I will take a tattoo any day over a piercing.
Be careful, the dentist warn that they can sometimes chip your teeth.

I have my tongue peirced. The peircing itself dose not hurt. What hurts is when your tongue swells after the peircing. The peircer will stick a clamp on your tongue. After that, your tongue goes numb, and they stick a needle in your tongue, which you still won't feel. After they release the clamp, you will feel really tender...about 5 minutes later...it starts hurting quite a bit due to swelling. I drank slurpees from 7/11. That totally did the trick! Good luck, believe me, you'll love it afterwards!
