It would have been impossible to cover it up and at least some individuals involved in the cover up would have started independent projects in later life and set on a different trajectory. But what we see is a state which is an unmoved monster without any brains... destroying the ecology and killing people in wars.
ETs would have become such an obsession that nobody would have cared for anything else and focus of technological advancement would not have been arms industry but Space.
How would it help the state to keep such a massive secret? How long? How many states do you think are lying about this? Ofcourse they lie about too many things like bunglings and wars but that is about interest and money.

Yes.We all know that our government is really just trying to help us because we could' handle the truth. If you see one you still can't believe it. Just like seeing a bad car crash. You can't comprehend what went on so you have to think about it for a while.The government is your friend, believe in them.They know what is best for you.

I do.The question is are they from another solar system,or another dimension. Did ancient man see these "flying people" and call them Angels(and the bad ones)Demons?Daniel saw an Angel and it scared him so bad he freakin' fainted(you know the lions den Daniel)Did that Angel look like he stepped out of the Bar scene from Star Wars? who knows?

there's really no way of knowing. i doubt that aliens would allow themselves to be caught or even seen by humans, and i highly doubt that any advanced civilization observing us would want to have anything to do with us whatsoever. look at us, we're dirty, mean, selfish, arrogant, obsessive, violent, hateful animals that destroy each other and destroy our own planet. would YOU wanna talk to human beings? i wouldn't. i don't think the government has any idea what's going on outside of our world, no one really does.
