It's difficult to tell from your question how long you dated, or how long ago. But anytime you wonder whether to get back together, the first step is to remember WHY you broke up.
Did you break up with him? If so, what was the problem, and has it been solved? Try to remember just how much it bothered you at the time. After all, some relationships, like New York City, look a lot better from a long way away. When you're in the relationship again, and having the same fights again, you'll wonder why you ever wanted to come back.
Did he break up with you? If so, you REALLY need to be cautious. Maybe he has genuinely matured and his feelings about you have changed. It's just as likely that he misses the affection he got from you, but still doesn't care for you as much as you care for him. Try asking him, in a sweet and non-confrontational way: "You didn't want to be with me before. What changed?"

Make him wait like he made you wait for 3 years but shorten it to about a week or 2 and then if he still wants you then make sure you still like him if you do it should be safe to go back out with him.
I mean look at how well Lauren and Jason are doing on the hills (if you watch that show).

If after 3 years you are still friends, someone is getting his milk without buying the cow. If you are still giving him the milk, tell him that the cow just went dry and to go to another pasture.

make sure he need you in his life & no body can help him .you only one love him but not easy to come back again he must know that you are only one in his life old love is a true love if every one love other

Dont let him have his cake and eat it too. Meaning dont give up the cookie w/out getting the milk. If he's for real then he wont want sex first.
