Why do Conservatives *not* support the ACLU?
The purpose of the ACLU is start-to-finish, defending the Bill of Rights. You got a problem with the Bill of Rights?
For example, defending the Bill of Rights is what puts the ACLU in alliance with the NRA (not exactly a hotbed of liberal causes) in defending the Second Amendment. Preserving gun rights would not be at the top of my little liberal agenda ... but the ACLU doesn't care ... the Second Amendment is part of the Bill of Rights, and so the ACLU defends it, popular or not.
They also defend the rights of Nazis and KKK marchers based on their First Amendment rights ... again, not something that would be at the top of my little liberal civil-rights-toutin' racist-despisin' agenda ... but that's what the ACLU does.
The problem is that defending civil liberties almost *always* means defending unpopular causes (popular causes generally have all the help they need). The precise point of the Bill of Rights is to defend the minority from the "tyranny of the majority" ... i.e. sometimes the majority is *wrong*, and that's precisely why we have a Constitution.
To boil everything the ACLU does to defending sex offenders, just shows that you got no game. The fact that you feel that being a Conservative means opposing civil liberties by spreading simplistic misinformation about the ACLU, does not speak well for Conservatives.
Have you no shame?

Not all liberals support the ACLU. I personally don't agree with a lot of what they do although I understand their point. Their entire point is to stand up for the rights of everybody without placing judgement. They are blind to the circumstances because technically regardless of what you've done or who you're affiliated with you have the same rights as everybody else. So their mission is to ensure that rights are not stripped from anyone, it's something that this country was built on. Now I don't agree with them going and fighting for the KKK or sex offenders - not at all. However they are true to their mission, they are blind to everything except the law and our rights. If we allow some people's rights to be stripped, where do you draw the line - some people would say blacks shouldn't have the same rights - some would say gays shouldn't have the same rights - some would say that LEGAL immigrants shouldn't have the same rights. Everybody's idea of what is ok and what is not ok differ so you can't pick and choose you have to serve blindly.

Although you might think it's a good thing to lock up "sex offenders" and throw away the key... that also gives your enemies the power to have you locked up just by calling you a sex offender.
What if someone didn't like you and talked their 6-year-old daughter into saying you molested her? I'll bet you would be glad to see the ACLU then.

They support them because the ACLU is using the justice system to help the liberals get their way. They can't win in the ballot box, so they have to go through the court system with corrupt judges.

That's not what the ACLU does. Liberals support them because the Liberals are pro civil liberty and the conservatives are trying to take it away.....in the name of "security."

They protect the rights of Americans as they are guaranteed under the Constitution. You are nothing but a brain-washed non-thinker if you believe the half of what you wrote.
I know of the single case you speak of, and they are saying that fighting for what you believe in - even if it's disgusting - is a right granted you as an American.
They also fight for religious freedom. And even though I know a knee-jerk Neo-Con like yourself wouldn't dare to read about the cases where they've fought to help protect religious liberties, I've given you a link so you might actually read something for yourself instead of spewing forth only what you hear on talk radio and Fox News.

The ACLU hasn't taken on a case for civil liberties that has ever been agreeable to myself. When did they represent a person who was wrongly accused? I must have missed that. They are there to present their agenda not those of people..

The American CIVIL LIBERTIES Union defends a person's rights under the constitution. If they were incarcerated without proper reason or evidence, or cannot afford a hotshot lawyer, it's nice to know there is an organization that will stand up for the little guy.
