She gets up at 1am for a bottle and 4am because her pacifier fell out. I'm going back to work in a month and need my sleep. I have the routine for bed...and I'm scared that she may be thirsty and 1am since it's been so hot and she sweats like crazy! Please help...any suggestions?

I would definitely talk to your pediatrician and verify this, but I think by 9 months, your baby shouldn't need another bottle. It may be that she just likes the attention, and if that's the case tough love is going to be your best bet. There are lots of theories on how best to get your baby to sleep, so you'll have to decide what works best for you and your baby.

At my house, we set up a bed time routine -- jammies, last bottle, a story or two, bedtime prayers, then into bed. After that, anytime either of my kids woke up, we would not pick them up. Simply comfort them, and maybe stay with them (even sleeping on the floor next to the crib for a short time). I know it's tough, but it does work after a few days if you can stick it out.

On the pacifier, we used to put a pacie in each corner of my son's crib to help minimize the middle of the night pacie hunts -- invariably they ended up under the crib in the corner by the wall!

Good luck! And if it helps, they do eventually sleep through the night, I promise!

Are you feeding your daughter solids yet? My son eats cereal and a jar of veggies right before bed and then he sleeps 9 hours. He's almost 10 months old. He's been sleeping through the night for about 4 months. I did the let him cry thing. It only took about 3 days of letting him cry for about 30 min. to get to sleep at night. I also let him cry if he wakes up which doesn't happen much. Usually he just cries for 30 sec. and goes back to sleep. You need to get out of the habit of putting her pacifier back in her mouth. I know some people don't like to let their children cry but it's the only way for them to learn to comfort themselves. If they're really upset, you can go in and rub their backs to let them know you are still around but don't talk and don't stay in the room long.

Good luck!

Can you put a fan in her room to keep her cool?

My kids didn't sleep through the night until they were 1. Now they are 8 and 4 and have bad dreams. I guess as a parent we just trade in one thing for another.

Try giving her a bottle of formula and some baby rice cereal before bed. Kinda like an "I love you, so I will fill your tummy before bed in hopes you sleep all night". If she doesnt like the cereal.. add some baby fruit to it, like banana or apple. Make sure it is right before bed.

it's normal. let her sleep with you and you will do much better.

day care before age 3 is very damaging, however.

This is real normal and it will just take time for her to grow out of this.
