You know, when you're famous enough people tend to believe you even if you say something like "Silence is the language of love". Love has no language. Imagine that my name is Ernest Hemingway and that I tell you these:
1. Silence is the language/sign of death.
2. Silence is the language/sign of the profoundness.
3. Silence is the language/sign of pain.
I could go on, but I think that I have made my point. Of course, one could find a lot of facts to prove that Gibran Kahlil Gibran (yes, with G, not J; Khalil also has variants: Khali, Khalil, Kahlil) is right, but one could also contradict him.
I respect the fact that you agree with his words and I will not try to convince anyone that he is wrong. I only tell you what I feel about silence and love. For me, love is more like a struggle. Love is noisy, love is passionate, love is anything but silence. Silence is what happens before the storm. Silence is also when you are at peace with everybody and with yourself, but that is not love, that is wisdom, this is understanding and forgiving this world. In my mind, silence and love cannot be associated.
Of course, this is what I think now; I might change my mind in the future. And I am pretty sure that what Gibran Kahlil said about love is what he was feeling at that moment. He might have changed his mind after that, but we will never know.

Love, Divine quantity , does not have a definition. When it enters, it silencing mind tremendously . As a result, there is no words comes out, for mind becomes empty of thoughts but filled by Love....Outspoken language becomes outmoded for a while, instead people understand each other without words, instantly. That would be considered to be only language for everyone Bible and Torah mentioned, before Babylon Tower experiment.....

I can believe in it. How ever, a better sentence could be:

Silence is a language of love.

Touching is a language of love.

Song is a language of love.

Laughing is a language of love.

Making sweet love is a language of love.

YOU know.

No. Love is a physical and emotional response. Silence can be interpreted in many ways but isn't nessacarily a good thing when it comes to the subject of love.

Nope, I don't agree. I never met a girl who doesn't like to be flattered. It's impossible to tell a girl that she's beautiful, praise her outfits, and jewelry, her hair in silence.
When I'm quiet, not saying a word, my wife suspects something is wrong, but when I say,"I love you, little baby girl ", she lights up like a light.

Silence can be misunderstood but never misquoted...its not the language of love but why say what a look can?

Blah, blah, blah. I read that book in the 90's. I think he was referring to a type of "bondage"! It's all about communicating WITHOUT words. A so-called meeting-of-the-minds or oneness with your partner. Most people will NEVER get this!

I agree it's difficult to explain true love, however if your true love is silent and never speaks - lack of communication is hard on a relationship.
