I accidentally left the ignition on my bike about 4 hours ago and just went out to move it into the garage and found it. Needless to say the battery is dead. How can I get it charged and started SOON!!

Thanks

You could jump start it, of course, then just ride it around to let the stator recharge it. The best way is to get a 1 or 2 amp trickle charger, take the battery OUT of the bike first, and charge it overnight. Don't hook a charger up to the battery while it's still connected to the engine though.

You did not state what type or size bike you have (or how old). Assuming it (the battery) is less than two years old, you should be about to put the bike in third gear and have someone push you off (unless its a large bike, then a couple of people), release the clutch and it should crank (this is assuming it ran well before). Once it cranks, I would drive it around at least ten to fifteen minutes (and do not turn it off unless you are home, on a hill to start it again, or have someone available to push you). If none of these are feasible, maybe you could get it started and ride it to a bike shop and have them check the battery (most bike shops will check a battery for free). Good luck and safe biking ~ I have did the same thing myself, so I can emphasize with you!

Your best bet would be a battery charger. Before you try that, I would keep the ignition off for a while and just let it set. There may be enough juice left in the battery for one more start, if you let the battery set for at least an hour or so. If that works, take it out and ride it for at least 20 mins at highway speed, and that should recharge the battery. If that doesn't work, you may need to jump start the bike, and then ride it for the 20 mins. If that doesn't work, you may need to charge the battery. Good luck.

If there is any charge at all left in the battery you might be able to "bump" start it. Get a friend (or friends) to give you a running push, and as you are rolling put the bike in gear and let out the clutch. You'll need to ride around for an hour or so to get the battery recharged (this depends on how good or new your battery is).

put it in second, open the clutch, and coast down a hill,.. or the ramps in a parking garage, ease off the clutch. the motor should kick in.
Its the same as starting a car with a stick shift, when the battery is toast.

But in this day and age most people just panic and call for road assistance. Do you have road assistance on your insurance or with your cell phone account?

Go run it down the street and pop the clutch to get it started. Then drive it around for 15-20 minutes to get it charged back up.

GO to autozone and get a new one. OR have them charge it for you. OR if someone else in the neighborhood has a cycle, just borrow their battery till yours charges.

Disconnect the battery cables and put a charger on your battery for awhile and then reconnect cables and start it up.
