Door to door selling is pretty much a dead business prospect. The people with money to spend ("discretionary income") are out of the house working, both husband and wife.
People don't trust strangers anymore and don't want to listen to sales talk at home.
The remaining businesses that do this sort of personal selling use BOILER ROOMS that set up appointments on the telephone first for their salesmen.
In the right neighborhoods, lawn chemicals and mowing services might be saleable door-to-door.ll In retirement communities, there might be a market for funeral and gravesite services for new people in town (so they can preplan their final arrangements now that they have arrived in the last place they expect to live).
The overwhelming majority of people don't want to be bothered at home by sales talk.

Cute 9-yr-olds seem to do quite well selling school fund-raising items door-to-door in their neighborhoods. Other than that, I think this method of marketing is on its way out. Most people I know wouldn't even open their doors to a salesman.
