This was the sentence of the judge in a negilent homicide. What constitutes hard labor? Or does that just indicate the full term will be served? This occured in the State of Louisiana.

In general that is not a sentence used in most states any longer. "hard labor" refered to the a chain gang or work camp where the inmate would be required to do heavey labor everyday, to be punished. I am not sure if LA still has chain gangs, most do not any longer.

It could merley be a hold over in wording from 30 years ago when there still was chain gangs.
