I was thinking to purchase a pink sapphire jewelry as a gift and then noticed that 90% percent of the items were actually created sapphire. So, my question is: is it OK to buy created (Lab) sapphire? Does it have any value at all?

Like all precious and semiprecious gems it depends on the buyer. Rare stones carry a higher value due to their rarity and beauty. Synthetic stones seldom approach real gemstones in beauty and so are valued less. They do not appreciate in value because there is no rarity. They just make more. You should buy or not buy based on your sense of beauty and the size of your wallet. Not as an investment. BTW most jewelry is markedup 600%.

Do not buy a synthetic........ebay has many reputible colored stone merchants who have sold thousands of sapphires worlwide and very reasonable. I have sold diamonds on ebay for years....I have purchased many fine stones(real) for mounting with diamonds. A lively pink sapphire( oval cut is the most common) and in the 1 ct range you can buy for approximately $60. In a shop in america it would cost you $300 for the same stone.I also find stones cut in chantaburi ,thailand the best cutters. Always check sellers feedbacks for satisfied customers. You can buy and have in you possession in 3-5 days from thailand.
