Remember:

* If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to the storm to be struck by lightning. Go to safe shelter immediately! Move to a sturdy building or car. Do not take shelter in small sheds, under isolated trees, or in convertible automobiles.
* If lightning is occurring and a sturdy shelter is not available, get inside a hard top automobile and keep windows up.
* Get out of boats and away from water.
* Telephone lines and metal pipes can conduct electricity. Unplug appliances not necessary for obtaining weather information. Avoid using the telephone or any electrical appliances. Use phones ONLY in an emergency.
* Do not take a bath or shower.
* Turn off air conditioners. Power surges from lightning can overload the compressors.

I don't want to be anywhere when lightning "hates" hah just kidding. Yes a car is a safe place to be, as long as you're not next to anything that might fall on your car, like a tree or a power pole. But keep your windows up regardless. The reason they're safe, is because the lightning needs to either come from the ground or travel to the ground, depending on the polarity of the static electricity. The rubber tires provide great insulation from that electricity. Also, when your car is running, it eliminates the static electricity that might build up in your car, because the car is grounded to all it's components. This is the above "Faraday Cage" that someone mentioned. But I'm assuming your car has tires. If not, don't sit there in a lightning storm.

I hope English isn't your primary language. Beyond that, yes, a car is a safe place to be when lighting hits...though you should avoid touching any metal parts inside the car. The reason is because the shell of the car creates what is referred to as a "Farady cage" which causes the current to go all around it, but not through it. Some people are certain to say it's because the rubber tires insulate it from the ground, but that isn't true at all. After going a mile through the air, lightning isn't going to care about 3 inches of rubber.

WAIT. THIS MAY SAVE YOUR LIFE.
cars are NOT a safe place to be when lightning strikes. In fact, cars are made out of metal, and can actually attaract lightning to them, making them a more likely place for lightning to strike.

there is a dangerous misconception that the rubber tires will protect you from getting electrocuted. This is a false belief. lightning has enough potential to jump miles of air, a few inches of rubber will not be enough to suddenly stop it.

the voltage is high enough to literally light your skin on fire. do not seek a car, seek a large building. indoors is the only safe place to be.

Question: IS A CAR A SAFE PLACE WHEN LIGHTNING HITS?

Do us all a favour and have your grammar checked.

And yes when lightning hits the car it's the safest place there is because it's grounded by the four tires. So stay in the car, never leave the car if a power line hits it you will be electrocuted.

Yes, a saloon car with all metal body is a very safe place. The electricity flows round the metal and down to earth and leaves those inside intact

If you mean is it safe to sit in a car if lightning hits it, then yes it is. The electrical charge passes over the metal body is to the ground through the wheels. it is possible to continue driving while the car is hit by lightning.

Are you asking if a car is the safest place to be when lighting strikes. Yes apparently so because of the rubber tyres.

reports indicate that car tires ground the vehicle and you should stay inside if electrical wires have also fallen on vehicle or around it. it is not the safest place (veteran garf) for all bad weather. In the event of a tornado.. get out of the car and get into a ditch or lowest area on ground... face down..hands over head.
