what is a quick simple way to change my instant message name that shows?

my full name comes up instead of my user name,i don't want to show my identity

This has already been asked, but I'll explain it again:

For yahoo messenger, go to preferences and then to "appearance", in that window go to the botton where it says:
For each contact on the messenger list, show their:
-Nickname or First and Last Name
-Yahoo ID

Check "Yahoo ID" if you don't want it to display your real name when you chat.

What instant messenger are you referring to? Yahoo, AOL, etc.?
