People are so desperate for someone to idolise and look up to and the magazines glorify these people to no end.

We're made the believe that they're these God-like deities that lead these magical, fulfilling lives.

It gives people a fantasy to believe that being famous means escaping the woes of everyday life- that having money and being on the covers of magazines, smiling and with your whole body photoshopped to the hell house is a realistic, joyful existence.

People have trouble realising that these people suffer the same emotional trauma and ups and downs as the rest of us.

Everyone loves to live with the fantasy that there is a dream life out there, with no problems and they're fed the idea by the media that the only way to achieve that is by being famous- we idolise these people because they seem to have everything that we as a society strive so much for, popularity, wealth and happiness.

It sucks that usually the only reason these people are popular is because they're being used, their wealth cannot buy them happiness and they end up being miserable- that's why so many celebrities turn to drugs, alcohol, eating disorders, etc. to cope with their own issues... then people go and follow THOSE leads, thinking that doing drugs, etc. is cool and brings them ever-closer to being like their favourite celebrity.

It's just sad... like a kid looks up to their older sibling, people are still looking for someone to give them guidance on how their life should be.

Not all of them are uneducated. Some of them are actually college graduates. Lisa Kudrow, for example, graduated from Vasser with a degree in Biology from what I've read. If some of these people weren't actors, they would still be doing okay in life. However, I do agree about people obsessing over them.

a little envious are we. that is the point.. people.. these are people who could have been serving us our dinner... but instead..they knocked on agents doors.. did silly commercials..took parts no one else would have..did stand up comedy in smoky bars... sang in dives...and now the have someone serving THEM breakfast lunch and dinner. there is a difference between obsessing and giving people their due respect for accomplishing their goals. and even the ones that are not so talented... could careless what you say about them on yahoo answers. let's not be haters..folks...

Isn't that rather judgmental? What makes you think they are incapable of great things other than acting/being band members? What an erroneous arrogant assumption.

Read some of their biographies. Many of them are college graduates who have worked in their field of study.

I think we daydream about the celebrities because we would like to be where they are. Good looking, adored by many, rich, popular, in the news... And they make it look so easy, which it is not.

I have never obsessed over any of them. I have had the opportunity to meet many celebrities working at the State Department in DC. I didnt care. They fart, burp and have bowel movements just like the rest of us. So many of them are arrogant as hell anyways. And alot of the females under all that makeup are down right scary looking.

I don't limit it to just actors - I even obsess about people who serve me food. Those waiters are pretty talented!

Well, not all consumers obsess over celebrities. It's mostly the "fan"atics out there that go overboard with the idolizing. I can't explain their behaviors.
